Description

Founded as New York Globe (1880-1884) by Timothy Thomas Fortune (and briefly renamed the Freeman from 1884-1887), The New York Age was a weekly newspaper began in 1887. With the financial backing of Booker T. Washington, the newspaper covered topics like economic exploitation, school and prison reform, and lynch laws. It employed Gertrude Bustill Mossell, Ida B. Wells, and more. Fortune stepped down as editor in 1907, with Fred R. Moore taking over as editor. The newspaper ran until 1960
