The Birth of the Savior

Title

The Birth of the Savior

Description

THERE is a song, whose echo's rang

Throughout the vault on high -

Angels descended first and sang

'Salvation' thro' the sky.

Sweet music! Oh what rapt'rous words

Were blended in that song!

A Saviour! - 'we his name record' -

Thus shout th' angelic throng.

A Saviour? - Yes - on this blest day

He comes to guilty man -

The promised One - (no more delay)

Fulfils the wondrous plan.

The watching shepherds, heard the sound,

(On Bethlehem's plains reclined,)

Up-springing from the dew'y ground,

They wonder in their mind.

A glorious light around them shone

The heaven's seem liquid fire -

The shades of night were all withdrawn,

Fearful, - they would retire. -

Fear not! th' heraldic angels sing,

Welcome the news with joy -

Go seek the Infant Saviour King!

Let praise, all hearts employ.

Look not for cradle set with gems,

With curtains richly hung: -

His head receives no diadem -

No flatt'rer moves his tongue.

Seek not in lofty palace, raised,

With spacious gilded hall: -

But to yon humble manger haste!

Near horned oxen's stall.

There, tho' no pomp its incense strews -

No liv'ried page of earth

Stands waiting to proclaim the news

Of his illustrious birth;

Yet bright seraphic choirs proclaim

To all the world around

The honor due His glorious name -

And, Lord of all He's crowned. -

Haste, shepherds! tell the waiting earth

'Peace on it,' now shall rest; -

Heaven bids us say, at Jesus' birth,

That sinful man, is blest.
